Featured Artist Interview: Edward Charles Vaughan



1) Where are you from and how does that affect your work?

Rochester Hills Michigan it doesn't affect my art in any way.


2) Who are your biggest artistic influences?

Picasso, Basquiat, Warhol, Dali, Pollock, Van Gogh, are some of the famous ones. But I am mostly influenced by my parents who encourage me.

Even though it didn't happen until later in life.


3) Tell me about your favorite medium.

I like to use Acrylics because they dry quickly, and I can move on to the next part of the painting, or work on several at the same time.


4) Where do you find inspiration?

Mostly from my thoughts.


5) When is your favorite time of day to create?

Evening to 2 AM


6) Describe how art is important to society.

It wreaks havoc

It is fraught with emotions

It conjures magic and disappointment

It's subjective to the beholder

7) What motivates you to create?

I haven't figured it out yet.


8) Do you have a favorite color?

Chromium Oxide Green (Liquitex)

Light Magenta

(Golden Acrylics)

Cerulean Blue

9) What are you working on at the moment?

The BIG PINK THING, Of the Geometric Cluster Painting Series

10) How do you stay connected and up to date with the art world?

DIA visits and the Internet

11) How do you know when a work is finished?

I don't know, I think it's finished when I'm finished with it

12) Do you have any exhibitions/shows, etc., coming up?

Nope

13) How useful has social media been for you?

Its ok, not too useful, I'm really illiterate about social media and computer stuff despite my age.

14)What do you think of NFT’s and the market that seems to be exploding for them?

Don't know what they are or how they work seems like something you have to have lots of money to do.

15) What is the biggest challenge of being an artist?

Getting organized. I am not an organized person. Also, being married to someone who is not into ART, and sees it more as a hobby, but we've been happily married 14 years.

16) What advice do you have to give other aspiring artists?

Don't be an artist be something that gets you a steady paycheck and health insurance. The days of Fame are Rare for an Artist.

17) Where can people go to see more of your work?

Mostly Facebook, attempting to get my work on a web site called embrace creatives but they want an Artist Statement. Having trouble writing it.
